The Journey Home
Pick-up day is a monumental event. Because Yorkies are incredibly small and fragile, we highly recommend bringing a cozy travel carrier for the car ride. If someone is riding with you, having them sit near the carrier helps soothe the puppy. Bring gentle wipes and a warm blanket to keep them comfortable.
The First 24 Hours
Keep things peaceful and low-key. Your tiny puppy has just left their mother and littermates for the first time. Avoid hosting a busy gathering right away. Let them explore a designated, safe, small area of the house and introduce family members calmly and quietly.
The First Night
Place their crate or playpen in your bedroom if possible. Being near you and hearing your breathing will help your Yorkie feel secure. A little whimpering is completely normal for a new puppy. Tuck in the Warm Hearts Yorkies scent blanket to surround them with the comforting smell of their first home.
The "Rule of Three" for Yorkies
3 Days: They may feel overwhelmed and be reluctant to eat (monitor closely to avoid hypoglycemia). This is the normal decompression phase.
3 Weeks: They start to feel secure, and their true, confident terrier personality begins to shine through!
3 Months: They have formed an unbreakable bond with you and completely understand the rhythm and routine of your household.
